You could be forgiven for not having heard of BLK Prime in the past few days or so. To be honest, he had quite a few. But now, the self-proclaimed entity has made its mark on the fight game, offering subscription video on demand to a diverse audience worldwide. Former WBO welterweight titleholder Terence Crawford, apparently satisfied with negotiations to fight fellow division king Errol Spence, signed a reported eight-figure deal with BLK last week. Then, on Tuesday afternoon, BLK announced to the world that it was signing former multi-titleist Adrien Broner to a three-fight, one-year contract.
Shown in an Instagram video, bearded and in a black T-shirt, Broner spoke alone in front of BLK’s backdrop. “This is a very special time for me,” he said. “I’m very grateful.” 34-4-1 The warrior then gave praise to the Almighty. “I want to thank God,” he said. “I’ve had my ups and downs in the sport. God is always looking for another way to give me another chance. Broner took a moment to give credit to Crawford, who will probably fight him in front of the BLK cameras. “It all starts with my stable mate, my stable mate now, my son from Nebraska, Terence Crawford,” said Broner.
Sure enough, Crawford will be fighting David Angwesvan this December on BLK Broadcast. “I’ll be at the meeting,” Broner said of the Crawford-Angwesvan fight, “hot, flying and beautiful.” Broner was once considered the heir to Floyd Mayweather’s throne. And of course, the man has certainly achieved his feats by winning four world title belts in four weight divisions. In the year After being upset by Marcos Madana in 2013, Broner’s career has been a roller coaster ride. He won some battles, but he also lost some big battles. Broner recently pulled out of a planned fight with Omar Figueroa due to mental health issues (regardless of what happens in the ring, here’s hoping the guy is in a better place emotionally now).
Although a fight date, opponent or venue has not been revealed by Broner, there is no doubt that BLK Prime has a big eye on the fight game. While Croner is nothing if not a household name in the sport, Crawford is considered one of the best — if not the only — boxer. “I think we’re going to take over boxing and take it to heights it’s never been before,” said Broner of BLK Prime.
