Inside the event: Fernando Alonso is bracing himself for another power unit change penalty before the end of the year.
in short
Alonso says he may need to get a sixth Renault power unit to reach the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
The Alpine driver has two grid penalties this season – in Spain, then his home grand prix in Austria – on top of his allowance of three power units for the 2022 season. After retiring from the Singapore Grand Prix with a power unit problem, Alonso said he could be asked to take further penalties before the end of the season.
“He might not be fully fit until the end of the year,” Alonso said. “So we may have to introduce a power unit. I don’t think it will be this weekend anytime soon.”

McLaren will also run 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Pallow as part of their weekend program at the circuit.
Mercedes Junior Aron has joined FIA Formula 3 for 2023.
Mercedes junior driver Paul Aron will compete with Prima in the 2023 FIA Formula 3 Championship, the team has confirmed.
The 18-year-old will make his debut in 2021 and 2022 with the FIA series, which supports Formula 1, in both the Formula Regional Europe and Formula Regional Asia championships.
Aaron has four wins, five pole positions and six podium finishes and sits in third place with two rounds to go.

Sometimes, just sometimes I wish I had chosen a different sport. All the money I spent in motorsport could have gone to people struggling to afford food. Maybe everything will work out in the end, and I will make money from motorsport. One way to find out.
