Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk, who is apparently ‘open’ to signing for the Magpies.
Mudryk was on the scoresheet for Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday evening as the Ukrainian outfit drew 1-1 away to Celtic in the Champions League.
The draw in Glasgow ended the Bhoys’ European campaign and kept Shakhtar in with a chance of advancing to the next round of the competition.
Mudryk has starred in Europe for his side and has attracted interest from the Premier League in the process.
He was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer and has admitted he “can’t say no” to the Gunners if they were to make an approach.
Brentford, Everton and Newcastle are also believed to be keen on signing the 21-year-old.
When news of interest in Mudryk originally surfaced, it was said that Shakhtar would be looking for around €30million.
However, their asking price has apparently doubled.
The Ukrainian champions have seen some extortionate deals made by Premier League clubs and are obviously aware they can get in amongst that action.
After Manchester United splashed out €100m on Antony, Shakhtar reportedly believe they can get at least €60m for their prized asset.
And so they should. The Premier League market is ridiculous.
Newcastle and Arsenal should easily afford that, but whether or not they will give in to Shakhtar’s demands remains to be seen.
The Gunners are thought to be in the market for a new winger after Mikel Arteta let Nicolas Pepe leave the club on loan.
They were heavily linked with Wolves’ Pedro Neto but a transfer failed to materialise.
Newcastle, on the other hand, were in the market for a versatile forward and were believed to be interested in Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.
Mudryk could be their man and another marquee signing after bringing in Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak since they were taken over last October.
And according to Football Insider, Mudryk is ‘open’ to moving to St James’ Park.
Newcastle are one of many sides ‘keeping a close eye on’ the Ukrainian international.
A move to the Premier League beckons, though it might be delayed until the summer if Donetsk beat RB Leipzig next week and advance to the last 16 of the Champions League.
Magpies boss Eddie Howe has given the ‘green light’ for a deal to be pursued and will ‘revisit the situation’ in January.
Another subject on the agenda for Howe is Bruno Guimaraes, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Newcastle are looking to offer the Brazilian midfielder a new long-term contract.
Guimaraes – who was also linked with Arsenal before joining the Geordies – has been excellent since moving to the north east in January.
Romano has reiterated that Newcastle are hoping to agree new terms with the former Lyon man, with lots of ‘top clubs’ interested.
He wrote on Twitter: ‘Newcastle plans for Bruno Guimarães remain very clear and won’t change: the club wants to offer him a new long term contract with salary improved, as reported last month.
‘Many top clubs are interested in signing Bruno in 2023 but Newcastle want to keep him.’
