Audi Formula Racing CEO Adam Becker is looking to bring production of the 2026 power unit to their Formula 1 project later this year.
The German marque will debut in F1 with the Sauber team – currently Alfa Romeo – when the new power unit formula comes into use in 2023. Getting into F1.
“Our initial launch may seem a long way off, but we want to have a development driver by the end of 2023,” Baker said. “Having someone with experience developing our new engine in our simulators in Newburgh is very important.
“We are looking for experts in the field who have previous experience in Formula 1. It is the first time since 2009 that a Formula 1 engine has been built in Germany and if we want specialists we have to look for it in England, France or Italy.”
Red Bull influence in 2023 Ferrari
Ferrari’s new Formula 1 car for 2023 will be an evolution of its race-winning predecessor and will feature aerodynamic changes aimed at tackling its biggest weaknesses, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Some of the changes are expected to mimic the successful concepts of Red Bull’s 2022 championship-winning design. Ferrari’s unique, long-edged side skirts are shortened, creating a more ‘double deck’ effect. The rear bodywork will be revised and the horizon section will be incorporated above the suspension for cooling, again recalling the layout of the RB18.
Ferrari is understood to have resolved power unit reliability problems that cost them at least two wins last year. The team ran the cars more cautiously following the failures last season, and correcting the problem will allow them to perform better than the 066/7 hybrids.
