In conclusion: Audi expects to challenge for a third season in Formula 1.
in short
Audi’s goal is to win F1 in 2028
Adam Becker, chief executive of Audi Formula Racing, said the manufacturer expects to win in Formula 1’s third season. Audi will enter F1 in 2026 as Sauber’s power unit supplier.
“We want to be competitive in three years,” Baker told S. “It’s a realistic goal. We want to compete for victory in the third year.
Despite the change in power unit regulations, the manufacturer admits it will face a “challenge” to enter the sport three years from now.
“Going into 2026 is attractive for Audi because we have already decided. We are 42 months away from the first race. In the last 30 years, it has to be one of the most advanced decisions of any manufacturer.
“Furthermore, the regulatory cycle will begin in 2026, usually when others enter between cycles. The power units will change, but also the chassis. In some ways, it may reset the advantage of experienced competitors in the past, and make it easier for new builders to compete.”
Mercedes Formula E exit due to low viewership – Wolff
Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff has said the manufacturer has left Formula One because audiences are too low for the investment in the team.
Mercedes competed in Formula E as a factory team for three seasons between 2020 and 2022, winning both the teams’ and drivers’ championships in 2021 and 2022. Mercedes withdrew at the end of the 2022 season, with McLaren taking over the team for 2023.
Speaking to Swiatscigow, Wolff said Formula 1 had become so popular that it had “saved” other series.
“Formula 1 has become so big that I think everything has weakened,” Wolff said. “We’ve been successful in the DTM for over 30 years and we’re really happy.
But the working group got to the point where you needed 40 or 50 million euros if you wanted to compete, and the return on investment was too small for that. And it’s the same with Formula E. The audience was not enough.
IndyCar’s COTA refund based on ticket sales
Circuit of the Americas chairman Bobby Epstein said any IndyCar return would depend on whether enough ticket sales to make the series viable.
The Austin circuit hosted IndyCar once in 2019. Epstein said he would be happy for the series to return to the circuit, but IndyCar must be able to sell enough tickets.
“It’s a matter of how many tickets you can sell and if IndyCar can sell enough tickets to come to Austin,” Epstein explained. “Are we a theater or are we building the sport?” It’s not our job to build the sport or the fan base. It’s not as busy as we’d like and we don’t have the budget for it.
“I’m a big IndyCar fan. I would love to see them back here. The numbers just have to work.
