The Boston Celtics are moving into uncertainty after shockingly announcing a season-long suspension for coach Ime Udoka after the head coach violated organizational policies by having a “consensual relationship” with a female colleague.
The Celtics have reportedly named Joe Mazzola as interim coach while Udoka serves his suspension. Boston announced that they will decide Udokan’s “future with the Celtics after this season.” Asked if president Brad Stevens had considered taking over the coaching duties, Stevens reiterated that Mazzola was “the best choice to do this by a long shot.”
“He’s the best bet to do this by a long shot,” Stevens said. “When you go through the whole process, everything hits you, but we have the best people to do that and Joe is the best person in our company to do that.”
When Brad Stevens was asked if he had considered coaching the team, he said: “John is the best choice to do it by a long shot. Everything hits you when you go through the whole process, but we have the best people to do it and Joe is the best person in our organization to do it.”
