Brazil are keen to replace Tite with AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho after Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti rejected the opportunity to take over.
Tite left his role as Brazil manager after six years in charge following their disappointing quarter-final exit at the World Cup.
Selecao were knocked out of the tournament by 2018 finalists Croatia, who won on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
It only took Tite a matter of hours to confirm he would be leaving and the Brazilian FA is now on the search for his successor.
Madrid manager Ancelotti was one of their top choices to come in, however, the Italian does not want to leave the Spanish capital.
And now Mourinho has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Tite.
According to La Repubblica, Brazil have opened talks with the Roma manager’s agent, Jorge Mendes.
Speaking in 2017, Mourinho actually said he would find it “exciting” to manage the Brazilian national team.
“I think following Manchester United I need an easier job than Manchester United, and coaching the Brazilian team should be more difficult,” the then-Manchester United boss said.
“Obviously it would be exciting, any coach wants to work with the best clubs and with the best. The Brazilian team is obviously a leader of success, obviously with talent, no matter what the generation, talent always appears.
“But I have to confess that it must be difficult, in every Brazilian there is a coach, in each journalist there is a better coach than the coach. I think it must be a difficult country to work for, but also a passionate one.”
The former United, Chelsea and Tottenham boss has also been linked with the Portugal job following Fernando Santos’ departure.
Like Brazil, Portugal bowed out in the last eight of this winter’s World Cup, losing 1-0 to Morocco.
Mourinho has discussed international management many times, saying he ‘wants to coach a national team’ two years ago.
A recent report stated that Portugal Football Federation president Fernando Gomes will meet with Mourinho before he returns to Rome after Christmas.
It has also been reported that Mendes and Gomes have met to hold preliminary talks over the role, while Roma are reluctant to see the Portuguese leave.
Mourinho guided the Serie A giants to glory in the inaugural Europa Conference League in his first season in charge.
Roma are competing in the Europa League this term and face RB Salzburg in the first knockout round.
They are currently seventh in the Italian top flight with eight wins, three draws and four defeats from their opening 15 games.
