Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams is disappointed that he was unable to negotiate a new contract with the team. In an interview with Athletics and Stadium’s Shams Charania, Williams discussed the contract negotiations.
Some NBA betting sites are giving the Celtics the second best chance to win the championship in 2023. However, few sportsbooks now have the Milwaukee Bucks underwhelming this season.

“It was disappointing for me, but you know how hard you’ve worked – you’ve shown your work,” the Celtics forward said. “And who knows. You might be able to get a better deal than you had in the contract negotiations in the first place.”
For me, that’s the belief that I go into it, saying, ‘Your craft is where you are and where you’re going to be in the future.’
Charania asked the Tennessee product if he’s playing with a chip on his shoulder now. “Yeah, I’ll always have a chip on my shoulder,” Williams replied. “The chip on my shoulder will never go away.”
Grant Williams believes the Celtics could have offered him a better deal.
Of course, Williams sometimes plays with anger. In last Monday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, Zach LaVine was shown walking off the floor and dealing with an official after a foul. He was then suspended for one game.
“Ever since I started playing basketball, I had a chip on my shoulder. I remember my dad and uncle sitting me down and saying, ‘Hey, if you don’t want to play basketball, we can.’
Many times people think that you don’t have that potential, that growth or that opportunity. And then go out there and prove them wrong. I have worked all my life…”
While Williams’ contract negotiations with the Celtics have fallen through, the forward has struck a deal. In an interview with NBA Insider, the forward announced his shoe deal with Jordan Brand.
Through five games to start the 2022-23 season, Williams is averaging 9.6 points, 4 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He is also shooting 69.6% from the floor and 66.7% from downtown.
In the Celtics’ 126-117 win over the Philadelphia 76ers in the season opener, Williams played 24 minutes and finished with 15 points, 1 board and 1 assist. He finished 8 for 8 shooting overall.
