Chelsea are reportedly ‘the more likely threat’ in the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as Todd Boehly is looking for a “marquee name”.
Unless Kane signs a new contract, there is going to be a lot of talk about the Tottenham striker in the next few months.
The Englishman was linked with a move away from Spurs last year after he publicly stated that he wished to leave the club.
Man City were in for him but no one was able to meet Tottenham’s reported £150m asking price.
Pep Guardiola’s side ended up waiting a year for Erling Haaland, and that is going pretty well for all involved.
Kane meanwhile committed his future to Spurs for the 2021/22 campaign and he ended up enjoying a positive season under Antonio Conte.
Spurs currently sit third in the Premier League and they are well-positioned to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
But there is growing suspicion that Kane could leave Tottenham next summer as he enters the final year of his contract.
Bayern Munich are understood to be admirers of him but they are waiting until next summer to sign him for a reduced fee.
Earlier this week, Kane acknowledged that Bayern Munich are a “top club” but he insisted that he is focused on doing well for Tottenham:
“I’m focusing on Tottenham Hotspur and trying to do our best,” Kane said. “For sure Bayern are a top, top club but all my concentration is on Tottenham and trying to win tomorrow night.”
He added: “We do so much preparation here. We work so hard towards each game that we play for our club. The World Cup isn’t something I’m really thinking about.
“I try to concentrate on one game at a time and do my best. That’s what I’ll continue to do.”
CBS journalist Ben Jacobs is now reporting that Chelsea are keen to sign Kane.
He states that co-owner Boehly wants to show that Chelsea can “bring in proven Premier League players”.
Kane is being eyed as he is a player who can “transition instantly” just like Gabriel Jesus has with Arsenal.
“We know that there was interest from Manchester City a few seasons back,” Jacobs said on The Football Terrace’s YouTube channel.
“Chelsea are the more likely threat coming from the Premier League at the moment. They will look at Harry Kane for sure.
“Todd Boehly is very keen on showing Chelsea can bring in proven Premier League players, particularly attack-minded players.
“They want a marquee name from within the Premier League, they want to bring in someone to hit the ground running, look at Gabriel Jesus, how beneficial he has been to Arsenal.
“Jesus has just been able to transition instantly, Kane would be able to transition instantly.”
