On Thursday night, CJ McCollum became the first New Orleans Pelicans guard since Tyreke Evans in 2014 to record at least 40 points, five rebounds and five assists in a game.
In New Orleans’ 126-117 win over the San Antonio Spurs, the guard scored a game-high 40 points in 38 minutes of action. Along with eight boards, nine assists, one steal and two blocks, McCollum shot 14-of-27 (51.9%) from the floor and 7-of-14 (50%) from beyond the arc.

In the year On April 14, 2014, Tyreke Evans finished with 41 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals in 43 minutes in the Pelicans’ 101–89 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also shot 14 of 26 (53.8%) from the field and made one 3-pointer.
In 27 starts this season, CJ McCollum is averaging 19.4 points, 5.1 boards, 5.9 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Not to mention, the 10-year veteran is shooting 42% from the floor and 36.2% from beyond the arc. It was the first time the guard averaged under 20 points since the 2014-15 season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

New Orleans opened the fourth quarter with a 19-point lead. At one point, the team leads by 23 points. The Spurs went on a 10-0 run to make things interesting, but the Pelicans guard had no game against San Antonio.
“CJ McCollum controlled the game from the start,” backup center Willie Hernangomez said. “I’m happy with CJ. He’s really getting his tune back. Today was a big game for him. I’m happy to see him take the shot and make the right decision.
In September, McCollum signed a two-year, $64 million veteran contract extension with the Pelicans. He is making $33,333,333 this season and will make $35,802,469 next season.
