“It was a good fight,” top middleweight David Benavidez said in an interview. FightHype “I’m going to give it to both guys. I feel like this fight is going to build up to make my and Caleb’s fight even more interesting.” He is referring to the effect he has with Plant.
Benavidez is currently expected to face Jose Uzcategui in January. If the 25-year-old Benavidez emerges victorious in that effort, he expects a showdown with Vegeta to come down in the spring. “I think this is the fight in May,” Benavidez said. FightHype Interview: “It will be a great fight. I feel the fight brings the best out of me. Whenever it happens, I look forward to it.” The Benavidez-Plant fight would be nothing if not exciting, as it features a contrast in styles that fans can appreciate. The plant, the boxer, and Benavidez, with a knockout ratio of nearly 90%, are slippery.
“It’s going to be a 100 percent fight every round. “I feel like that’s what wins a fight,” Benavidez says of his style. “I feel like my motor, stamina and power will finally take over the fight.” Then again, Plant showed last weekend that he can turn the lights out on his own, a perfectly placed left hook sending two-time world titleholder Dirrell down in the 9th. “It’s not Caleb’s power that I need to worry about,” Benavidez argued, adding that what concerns him is Plant’s slick boxing skills. He added: “The problems arise when I grab him and cut the ring.
For his part, Plante will be looking for a rematch with Canelo Alvarez, who he performed well against last year before being stopped in thunderous fashion in the 11th round. But Benavidez makes his opinion clear. “The only way to get to Canelo is to go through me,” he insisted. Benavidez is, after all, the WBC Interim Super Middleweight Champion. “If anyone is going to have a shot at the (world) WBC title, it’s me,” he says. On Benavidez’s part, however, there is concern that the politics of boxing may hinder him. “I hope they don’t try to get in my way and put Caleb in front[of the line in front of Canelo],” he said.
