“I definitely think there’s a chance for a fourth fight,” said former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Sky Sports. “Boxing is a business. Many people call it a sport but it is not a sport. There is no doubt that Wilder’s three bouts with archrival Tyson Fury will be memorable. The first ended in a draw. The second may have seen Fury sweep Wilder, but the third saw Fury himself get off the mat and finally hit the American hard. Still, not many are expecting a fourth fight between the two heavyweights.
“I’m still a big fish in the business,” Wieder said. Sky Sports, “Especially here in America” To be sure, it’s hard to say for sure that any heavyweight besides Fury will be better than Wilder. Anthony Joshua? Coming off two losses in a row, he is likely to be the betting favorite against Wilder. Oleksandr Usyk? He’s incredibly skilled and an undefeated multi-titleist – but anyone can guarantee he’ll be able to get through the thunderous power of the fighter known as the “Bronze Bomb.” Get up and Jim Joyce? He’s impressive – but inexperienced. Furthermore, when he punched, Joyce left himself open to being punched as well. Against a fighter like Wilder, that’s dangerous.
“Unless we’re all one division, why are we still fighting?” Wilder said of Fury. It can only lead to that. All this being said, it is definitely possible.” There is no doubt that Wilder is in good spirits these days. Joshua and Usyk are the most realistic options. Joyce is also an option, as is former headliner Andy Ruiz. If Wilder probably (“probably” is the operative word here) fights and bests Usyk, he’ll hold three of the four major heavyweight titles. The odds may not be as unusual as they seem. Usyk mentions Wilder as an opponent.
“I heard about Usyk’s situation and he’s going to go there,” Wilder said. I took Usik as a man of his word. For now, though, Wilder must focus on former sparring partner and fierce competitor Robert Helenius, whom he is set to meet in the ring on October 15th. However, if Wilder takes care of business as intended, his future may be brighter than it seemed after his last fight, one of which dropped his second of three fights to Fury.
