The Memphis Grizzlies are off to a great start with a 9-5 record and are in first place in the Southeast Division. Memphis has been led by two All-Star seasons in Ja Morant and Desmond Bane. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies announced today that the 24-year-old SG will likely miss some time.
Third-year pro Desmond Bane was diagnosed with a Grade 2 sprain on his right big toe and is set to be reevaluated in two to three weeks. He suffered the injury in Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and did not play in Sunday’s loss to the Washington Wizards. It will be a tough loss for the Grizzlies, but fortunately, with Bane out, the team is expected to get a big-time player back.

Desmond Bane is out for the Grizzlies with a toe injury.
The duo of Desmond Bane and Ja Morant was a strong man for the Grizzlies. Before Banes’ injury, Morant and himself were the only players on their team to average 30 minutes per game. Bane averaged (24.7 points, (4.9 rebounds) and (4.8) assists per game in 12 games. He established himself as an elite three-point shooter to start his career, making 3.8 three-pointers per game this season. That was fifth among all NBA players this season. He is shooting a career-high 45 percent from deep this season.

Fortunately, PF Jaren Jackson Jr. is scheduled to make his season debut for the Grizzlies tonight after recovering from offseason foot surgery. Jackson Jr. led the league with 2.3 per game last season and easily leads the team this season. At 22, he is apart of a young Grizzlies core that could be a serious contender in the West for years to come.
