Dimitri Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight title roster is riding high after picking off the one and only Canelo Alvarez last spring. However, his next fight will not be a rematch with boxing’s biggest star. Instead, it’s undefeated former super middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez against the man popularly known as “Zurdo” in the boxing world. It’s a tough match that will go down on November 5 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The game will be broadcast here in North America on the DAZN streaming service.
“Dmitri Bivol has now proven himself pound-for-pound after his win over Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May and will be looking to make a much-needed defense against challenger and former world champion Gilberto Ramirez,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. The card will be headlined by world championship fights and is set to be one of the biggest nights of boxing in 2022. Hearn also spoke about the location of the battle. He added: “I am delighted to bring this massive world title fight to Abu Dhabi and would like to thank the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi for all their help in making this world-class event a reality. “Roll for World Championship Boxing Live on DAZN November 5.”
Bivol is eager to compete against the colorful Ramirez, as he defends his roster. “The fight with Zurdo has been raging for some time, many things have been said,” he said. “Now we have the opportunity to take care of things with our actions, not outside the ring.” Ramirez is excited about the opportunity to face Bivol, who is highly regarded in the ring.
“Despite all the challenges I faced, I’m happy that the fight is finally done,” Ramirez said. “In the year It’s been a long time coming and I am looking forward to a great night on November 5th. I will fight Bivol anywhere – including Mars, but I know we will put on a good show in Abu Dhabi. Overall I am happy and very thankful to WBA, Mr. Gilberto Mendoza and the Golden Boy family for being on this journey with me.
Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Ramirez, made it clear that this is his fighter’s time to shine. “We’re heading to Abu Dhabi,” Zurdo said when he fights Bivol on November 5th, where Zurdo will prove he’s the best light-heavyweight.
