Cleveland will feature Donovan Mitchell’s return to Utah this January 10th when the Cavaliers take on his former team, the Jazz.
Let’s jog your memory. A few months ago, in September 2022, Utah surprised us all when they negotiated an incredible six-player trade for Donovan Mitchell, including Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Agbaji.
“Acquiring Donovan Mitchell gives us an incredible opportunity to bring one of the NBA’s most dynamic young stars to Cleveland,” Cavs President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman said in September. At just 25 years old, he is a unique and proven talent.
There’s no doubt that the move has been a successful trade so far, as Mitchell averaged his best stats in his first 36 games with the Cavs. Not only did he score 28.8 points per game, but he also set his own records in all three shooting percentages (48.8 FG%, 40.5% on 3-pointers, 87.4 FT%). Just last week, Mitchell made history when he scored 71 points in an overtime win against the Bulls.
Such a performance earned him Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors this past season, scoring 116 points in two games.
