Vietnam hosts Oman in round 9 of the third stage of the World Cup qualification. The match will be played on Thursday, March 24th at My Dinh National Stadium (Hanoi)
The national team of Vietnam seems to have been able to reach its peak. This is evidenced by the promotion to the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup in 2019. It was a repetition of the maximum result for all the time of performances. And reaching the decisive round of the World Cup qualification is a great achievement as well. In the previous round, Park Hang-Seo’s men were able to outrank Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, and the UAE national team was only one point ahead. But in the third stage, the Warriors turned out to be not “golden” and even more so not “star”. Vietnam lost seven matches in a row and managed to please the fans only in the last round, defeating China at home (3-1).

For a long time, Oman showed quite good results only at the level of the Gulf Cup. It is enough to recall the victory in this tournament in 2017. Of course, everything is different at the Asian Cup level: the Reds managed to progress from the group only once (by the way, it happened in the last draw, in 2019). Branko Ivankovic significantly improved their results. The Omanis were able to break into the decisive stage of qualification. They won six out of eight matches, confidently outranking India, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Of course, it was clear that Oman wouldn’t be able to compete with Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Australia. But the Reds are the best among the other three teams. They scored eight points: as many as China and Vietnam scored together.
These national teams rarely reach the decisive stages of qualifiers. Therefore, it is not surprising that they crossed paths for the first time only in this draw. In October, Oman managed to win 3-1 at home. The Reds are stronger, but it’s not clear whether they have enough motivation. We recommend betting on their victory, but with a zero handicap.
