Everything made little sense at the time. Floyd Mayweather, despite being forty years old and retired, was still considered the single most dominant force in boxing. No one, not even former foe Canelo Alvarez, who put himself on the throne, let Mayweather down. On the other hand, Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the face of the UFC. Both men were bold, flashy and brilliant. It made sense (or rather, dollars and cents) for McGregor to take a shot at him, even though he didn’t seem to have much of a chance to beat Mayweather in the boxing ring. In the year The most hyped Mayweather-McGregor fight that went down in the summer of 2017 ended fairly well, with Mayweather stopping the Irish star in the tenth round of one of the most profitable fights in history.
Now Mayweather – and not for the first time – is saying he will face McGregor again. “I want to go out there this weekend and have fun, then I have another exhibition in Dubai in November and me and Conor McGregor in 2023.” Sports message Mayweather reported. “We don’t know if it will be an exhibition or a real fight. But there were talks of both. I will not go into battle where I will take any real punishment. So, guys like Conor McGregor and guys who don’t really hit like on YouTube or the UFC, I don’t mind clashing with those types of personalities but there’s nothing I’d put myself through where I’m going. to hurt myself or hurt myself”
While it’s true that Mayweather left the UFC, it’s also true that it’s not 2017 anymore. Both are rich and incredibly famous, but neither Mayweather nor McGregor are anywhere close to the mainstream. Mayweather is set for an exhibition fight this weekend against Japanese MMA star Mikura Asakora. After that, he was said to be fighting another exhibition – this time with a YouTube influencer. Both opponents are not known as high-level boxers, because neither of them is human. However, they are helping Mayweather pad his bank account. That’s good for them — and good for Mayweather. But another Mayweather-McGregor matchup clearly won’t make the untold millions that the first fight did.
Mayweather-McGregor 2 will undoubtedly be a profitable endeavor, though. It won’t be a serious affair, but it will still be profitable. With Mayweather retired from high-profile boxing and McGregor understandably not a UFC force, perhaps a rematch between these two makes as little sense as the first.
