The start of the 2022-23 season has been rough for Ben Simmons, to say the least. Simmons has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and has missed four games this season with a knee injury. The three-time All-Star has been receiving criticism from former players and the media in the NBA.
Former NBA player and current New York Knicks analyst Wally Szerbiak recently trashed Nets PG Ben Simmons and had a few things to say when asked who the most overrated player in the league is. Brooklyn today hired interim coach Jacques Vaughan as the team’s head coach. NBA betting sites have the Nets at (+1400) to win the Finals.

Szczerbiak called Ben Simmons “the most overrated player in the league.”
It’s been a slow start to the season for Ben Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets. He has played in seven games so far and has not scored more than nine points in a game. Simmons made just three field goal attempts in Monday’s loss to the Mavericks and finished with two points in 16 minutes.
Another stat that doesn’t favor Simmons is the Nets’ record when he’s not playing. The team is just 1-6 this season while playing for the Nets. The Nets went 3-1 in games without action. It’s a bad look for Simmons because he’s basically a big reason why the Nets lose games.
When asked who the most overrated player in the league is, former NBA player and New York Knicks analyst Wally Szerbiak had more to say about Simmons.
“The most overrated player is Ben Simmons,”… “It’s not even close. The guy didn’t even play in the playoffs two years ago. Then last year he was afraid to enter the court. The man is afraid to shoot. He’s the first pick in the NBA draft and you can’t even find him on the basketball floor. – Wally Skuzerbiak

This is not the player the Nets traded for before the deadline last season. Expect Simmons to dominate in the paint and use his size and skill to his advantage. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and the Philadelphia 76ers seem to have dodged the net so far. As the number one overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Simmons will always carry a higher set of expectations compared to other players.
Will the Nets see Simmons reach his true potential in Brooklyn? They certainly hope so.
