Boxing’s first big card of 2023 goes down tomorrow night in Washington, D.C., when Gervonta “Tank” Davis takes on Hector Luis Garcia in a scheduled 12-round lightweight bout. The undercard, at least, has some interesting names attached. Former WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade will make his super middleweight debut when the 31-0 Rhode Islander takes on 26-4-1 Desmond Nicholson in a scheduled 10-round bout. The talented Andrade has a reputation for being one of the most removed from the fight game. If he starts to have success at super middleweight, it will be difficult for him to get rid of the division’s biggest names.
Welterweight Rashidi Ellis will be looking to impress on Saturday. The 24-0 Massachusetts native will fight 25-1 Royman Villa in a scheduled 12-rounder. Having only fought three times since 2018, the 29-year-old Ellis could be looking to have a busy year for himself. With that in mind, it will be another top welterweight on this weekend’s card. There are those who would argue that the 29-0 Jaron “Boots” Ennis is already the best fighter in the division. He will put his unbeaten career on the line tomorrow night when he takes on 21-1 Karen Chukadchian in a 12-round affair for the interim IBF world title.
