Brooklyn Nets GM Sean Marks knows his players’ frustration after losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2022 NBA playoffs. More importantly, he understands Kevin Durant’s perspective.
During the offseason, reports surfaced that Durant was pushing to fire head coach Steve Nash and GM Marks. At Monday’s NBA media day, NBA executives discussed the drama.

“[Rather than hold a grudge against Kevin, it’s better] To say, ‘Well, if he’s listening, what’s going on here? What should we change? ” Mark explained. Communication is key to the Nets’ postseason.
“Is it personnel-driven? Is it logistics? Is it processes? What is it? What can we do to get back there? I completely understand the frustration. I don’t know if anyone is more frustrated than the two of us. [Marks and Nash]He said.
“We’re all in this together. We all know what’s at stake here, what our ultimate goal is.” The Nets GM continued
Nash also made a good point. “At the end of the year, I think it blows a little because you lose,” the second-year coach said.
“So everything goes up. Everyone is emotional. Everyone was upset. Looking back now, we did a lot of good things last year. We survived a lot of the season without the three stars.
Nets GM Sean Marks felt sorry for Kevin Durant
However, as the Nets finished 44-38 (.537) in the regular season and were swept by the Celtics in the first round, fans and players remain critical.
It was like Brooklyn’s season was doomed from the start. In addition to losing players due to injury and Covid-19, Kyrie Irving refused to receive the vaccine. So, for most of the season, the Nets were a weak team at home.
Durant also didn’t like how the front office treated Irvin last season. It was one reason for many why two-time Finals MVP Nash and Marks were locked up. Based on the offseason drama, maybe the Nets need new leadership.
Additionally, Durant still doesn’t think Nash is the right coach for the job. Nash is one of the greatest basketball players of all time, but he lacks coaching experience.
If Brooklyn falls short of the playoffs again in 2023, the front office could replace him. Maybe the team is better off with a veteran coach. After all, Durant turns 34 on Thursday.
With the offseason additions of Royce O’Neal, Markieff Morris and TJ Warren, the Nets should have no reason to lose in the 2022-23 season.
