40-0 former world titleholder Jaime Munguia returns to the ring in Guadalajara on Saturday to record a fight live on DAZN. The 26-year-old Mungia’s opponent in the scheduled 10-round middleweight affair was unheralded 21-5 Gonzalo Correa. Suffice it to say that Mungia, who has come under fire for his recent opposition selection, was certainly expected to win in fashion.
Mungia outclassed the southpaw Korean in the first but the Argentinian made it clear that the Korean was in it to beat him. That being said, Korea was mostly able to avoid Mungyan’s punches in the second. It was a smart strategy, but will it prove sustainable and successful? But the truth is, even Korea has passed the round. First, a strong Munguia placed the right Korean. But he managed to get to his feet and survive the episode. It only delayed the inevitable.
Mungia bled the man’s face by landing power shots in the third. A body kick sent Correa to the end of the round. He didn’t beat the count. In short, Mungia took care of business, which was exactly what he was supposed to do. The question now is whether Mungiya will mount a serious competition in 2023.
