In the year In 2019, he defeated former World Cup opponent Bryant Jennings by unanimous decision. It was the one and only time any undefeated heavyweight Joe Joyce fight would go the distance. The Londoner was last seen fighting former world titleholder Joseph Parker in a 12-rounder in October. The fight ended in the 11th with a left hand hook from Joyce. Now 15-0, the rising heavyweight is making it clear that he wants to face the division’s biggest names. That means the Londoner is eyeing the likes of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. What’s more, he wants to face one of the two heavyweight champions in the summer – one of the two men who could become the undisputed world champion.
“I plan to fight in March.” Sky Sports “When everyone else is fighting,” Joyce said. Of course, WBC and lineal titlist Fury could indeed face WBA, IBF and WBO titlist Usic in the early part of next year, which would create a potential spot (that’s the operative word here) for Joyce and one of the two men in the summer. “For the summer one (I) go to a big one like Usyk or Fury,” he said Sky Sports. “I’ll be ready because I’ll have one at the beginning of the year to go.”
Of course, if Fury and Usyk actually fought there would certainly be a rematch clause. However, it is doubtful that Joyce will be sidelined until the smoke clears. “I don’t understand why people do that,” said the fighter. Sky SportsReferring to fighters who like to wait for a big fight to come. “When you get a shot, it makes them rusty and they also want to improve their skills and your skills and learn and grow as a fighter and correct any mistakes and be involved in these exciting fights for the fans.”
Joyce and Fury have worked together before. Moreover, Fury worked out together in famous Big Bear, California while training for his debut match against Deontay Wilder on the WBC title roster at the time. “It’s tough in Big Bear … you have to be a tough guy to train there,” Joyce said. “You do long laps and run every morning. You do a lot of father work. He trains you to be a beast, a tank.” If he wants to come out victorious against the likes of Fury and Usyk, he’ll need enough gear. However, there is no doubt that Joyce possessed the greatest self-confidence to say the least.
