Undefeated 18-0 heavyweight Stephen Shaw headlines an ESPN televised card Saturday night from Turning Stone Resort & Casino. The opponent was 16-1 Efe Ajagba. The match was scheduled for ten rounds. But first, former Italian Olympian Guido Vianello tries to add another win to his 11-0-1 record by fighting 16-6-1 Jonnie Rice.
The first round was a very exciting process for everyone, nothing memorable. Vianello was able to connect a bit in the second, though Rice was able to employ some impressive head movement to keep some of Vianello’s punches from landing on impact. Vianello used his jab well in the third.
Vianello continued to control the fight in the fourth and fifth. In the sixth, however, Vianello was severely cut above his left eye. The cut appeared to be a cut on the right side, but when the ring doctor was called at the start of the seventh, the referee said the cut was a head collision. The fight was then stopped and the judges decided on the winner. Judge Benji Esteves, however, agreed to review the punch before the decision was read. Esteves then went on to beat Rice.
