Undisputed women’s lightweight champion Katie Taylor showed the world again on Saturday just how good she is. Ireland’s Taylor, who took over from undefeated Argentine Karen Carabajal, impressed the audience at London’s Wembley Stadium with ease. The 19-0 Carabajal was nothing if not decided, but it all came down to skill on Saturday. Excellent footwork, clean punches and Taylor’s strategy of successfully employing the stick and movement proved too much for the 32-year-old challenger. After the final bell, the judges decided in favor of the 36-year-old champion Taylor by scores of 100-91, 98-92 and 99-91.
“She had everything she could get tonight,” Taylor said after the Carabajal fight. I’m happy to get another win. Taylor’s promoter, Matchroom honcho Eddie Hearn, said it was time for Taylor to fight again in her home country of Ireland. “It’s time to go back to Ireland,” he said. Whoever, wherever you are, Ireland should be next to Katie Taylor. Taylor is looking to rematch Amanda Serrano, who went through a decision earlier this year in New York. However, Hearn indicated that his team would not be sitting Taylor indefinitely for the second Serrano fight to finally materialize. “Time does not wait for Amanda Serrano,” he said.
