“I clearly know I can’t do this forever,” says Katie Taylor. DAZN Boxing Show. I don’t know if I want to punch for the rest of my life. Taylor has had such a career that if she were to step aside now, her eventual induction into the World Boxing Hall of Fame would be a foregone conclusion. 21-0 doesn’t mean the Warriors are racing for the exits. “I really like my sport,” she said. “I love training, I don’t get sick in the morning and I don’t get sick on cold mornings, running sessions, sprints, I really love my sport.”
Good thing for Taylor, seeing as she has an upcoming fight to prepare for against Karen Carbajal. Carbajal is undefeated like Taylor, 19 wins with 0 losses. At 32, the Argentine fighter is four years younger than 36-year-old undisputed lightweight champion Taylor. Additionally, if she gets past Carabajal, Taylor could face a fight with UFC legend Cris Cyborg in the future. “I think she had a fight a few weeks ago,” Taylor said. “She was getting a little bit of boxing experience under her belt, I think.”
Taylor, who has devoted her life to the sweet science, admits there is an appeal to being seen with a cyborg. “She’s an MMA legend,” Taylor said of her foe. She’s a lot bigger and heavier than me so it makes for an interesting fight. Ultimately, Taylor seems to feel that the matter will be resolved by the fans. “I would be willing to get in the ring with her,” she said of Cyborg.
Taylor, a resident of Ireland, She has defended her undisputed bantamweight crown six times since becoming the sole ruler of the division in 2019. Her last fight was against legendary fighter Amanda Serrano last April in Madison Square Garden. Taylor walked out of the ring that night with another victory on the revue thanks to the referee’s decision, although the fight was razor thin, so thin it could have gone either way, or it could have been a draw. The Taylor-Carbajal fight is scheduled to go down on October 29 at London’s Wembley Stadium. It will be broadcast live in the United States on the DAZN streaming service.
