The 30-player path to the PGA Tour begins next year in the Bahamas with the same number of tournaments as the Korn Ferry Tour schedule, nearly $8 million more in prize money and a revised year-end schedule.
The Korn Ferry Tour released its 2023 schedule on Tuesday with changes in effect, starting with a minimum purse of $1 million for the regular season and $180,000 for the winner.
The change comes at the end of the year. Instead of 25 players earning PGA Tour cards at the end of the regular season, the Korn Ferry moves to a playoff system similar to the FedEx Cup with increased points and reduced fields after four weeks. The top 156 players qualify for the Albertsons Boys Open, 144 players advance to the Simmons Bank Open in Tennessee, 120 players advance to the National Children’s Hospital Championship in Ohio and the top 75 advance to the Indiana Corn Ferry Tour Championship.
All playoff events have purses of $1.5 million ($270,000 to the winner).
“I am thrilled with the speed with which we are moving into this next chapter in our tour history,” said Alex Baldwin, entering her fifth season as president of the Korn Ferry Tour.
The Korn Ferry Tour previously awarded 25 PGA Tour cards and 25 postseason cards to combined Korn Ferry and PGA Tour players. There will now be 30 cards, with at least five cards from the traditional Q school and 10 cards from the leading players on the European Tour.
As for the Korn Boat Tour schedule, two Louisiana races and one in Maine are no longer on the schedule. They were replaced by new tournaments in Chile, Oklahoma and New Jersey.
The season opens in January with two tournaments in the Bahamas, two in Latin America (Panama and Colombia) and closes five weeks before resuming in late March.
