Ferrari is benefiting from stability after Charles Leclerc dismissed reports that team principal Mattia Binotto’s job was in danger.
Ferrari issued a statement on Tuesday saying that reports that Binotto’s position could be taken by Alfa Romeo group principal Frederic Vasseur were “absolutely unfounded”.
“It’s not good to read these things,” Leclerc said in response to a question from RaceFans yesterday. “So I think it’s good for the team to clear the air and hopefully we can focus 100% this past weekend.”
According to some reports, Leclerc is frustrated with the team following a series of questionable tactical calls. The most recent of these occurred at Interlagos last week, when Binotto admitted the decision was a “mistake” when the team opted to send him out for the start of Q3 on medium tires while the track was dry.
But Leclerc said he believes the team’s current set-up will continue to produce improvements in performance. “I think stability pays off,” he said. “We have shown in the last few years that we are improving.
There is another step we need to take but we are working on that and I am sure we will achieve that.
He said he did not pay attention to the rumors surrounding Binotto from 2019, which was Leclerc’s first season at the team at Ferrari. “There are always rumors in Formula 1 and especially around Ferrari, and that will not change,” he said.
“Obviously, when we get to the end of the season, there are always voices around us. But I think as a team we really have to focus on our work and the right way, try to bring out everything around the team. “
Leclerc won two of the first three races this season. In the year They were the first victories of the team since 2019, after which they fell badly in 2020 and began to recover a year later.
“People forget the strides we made from last year to this year,” Leclerc said. There’s definitely more work to do but I’m sure we’ll do it all together, and I hope to finish this season on a high from this race.
“But other than that, I have nothing to say. I don’t think we should pay too much attention to this.
