Liverpool are said to be ‘keen to lure’ Borussia Dortmund youngster Youssoufa Moukoko to the club as Jurgen Klopp has been ‘blown away’ by the 17-year-old.

The Reds were unable to sign Erling Haaland in the summer as he joined their rivals Manchester City.

Instead, they are reportedly looking at one of his replacements who is making a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund.

Moukoko made his debut for the Bundesliga outfit shortly after his 16th birthday and he has already made 52 senior appearances.

The 17-year-old is rightly recognised as one of the best young players in Europe. So far this term he has grabbed three goals and four assists in 15 Dortmund appearances.

Football Insider are now reporting that Liverpool have ‘set their sights’ on signing him at some point next year.

The Premier League club are ‘keeping close tabs’ on the teenager after ‘being hugely impressed’ by his form during this campaign.

Liverpool are ‘keen to lure’ Moukoko to Anfield but they are not the only club linked with him.

Other Premier League clubs, Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG are ‘also monitoring the young forward’.

Klopp previously managed Dortmund and the current Liverpool boss has been ‘blown away’ by the impact Moukoko has already made in the senior ranks.

Liverpool’s apparent interest in Moukoko comes about a few days after Diogo Jota suffered a serious injury that will keep him out for months.

The former Wolves man has surpassed expectations at Liverpool as he has shown he is capable of playing all across the forward line.

The Portugal international has been involved in 48 goals in just 93 outings for Liverpool.

Klopp has insisted that Jota is a “tough cookie” and he has backed the Liverpool star to eventually return to his best.

“He’s an incredibly tough cookie, to be honest, it’s unbelievable,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.

“When I saw him yesterday on crutches and he wanted to shake my hand, I had to give him a hug.

“I said, ‘It’s more for me than for you, to be honest’ because it’s a shame, the whole thing: how it happened, that it happened, when it happened, all these kind of things.

“But he is incredibly strong, it’s unbelievable. He is a role model in that. He really takes it like it is: ‘You cannot change it anymore, so let’s work from here.’

“So yes, we support him as much as we can but we all know, and we were all involved in professional football, especially as a player, how lonesome rehab phases can be anyway because you spend a lot of time at the training ground for your rehab but then all the other time is still long, when you are at home.

“But we all know with the baby, his missus and the dogs he is in good hands there.”
