The situation between the Chicago Bulls and Lonzo Ball just got a lot more. according to Jamal Collier of ESPNThe 2017 second-overall pick will undergo an arthroscopic debridement on his left knee, the same knee he had surgery on earlier this year.
The procedure helps to remove the damaged cartilage and tissue, which helps to restore it. The Bulls announced Ball’s surgery nine days after multiple reports suggested he would miss the start of the season due to injury. Chicago will evaluate him further in 4-6 weeks to see if there is any improvement.
Ball has dealt with a number of shocking injuries since coming into the league, but it doesn’t seem to be any more complicated than the one on his left knee. On January 20, the Bulls’ starting guard was diagnosed with a bone fracture and a small meniscus tear in his left knee after a loss to the Golden State Warriors, resulting from surgery he underwent last season.
Chicago had hoped Ball could make progress in the four months between his diagnosis and the game. However, Ball struggled to put weight on his knee, which led to further rehabilitation and a season-ending announcement before the series against the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Gentleman made many headlines around Chicago in favor of Milwaukee. As he said in the press conference, he questioned himself and knows that his game will at least lead to a good finish against the Bulls.
“Every time you watch the game, you feel like you can leave an impact on the game. I feel like my shooting has definitely helped me, and obviously compared to guys who are stars on the other side of the defense.”
When Ball’s recovery period is over, the Bulls and their medical staff will determine the best course of action. Before the injury, Chicago was the top-two seed in the Eastern Conference, without him they finished with the sixth-best record in the East.
