The Louisiana Gaming Control Board reported monthly statistics for August and reported an upward trend in online betting, avoiding a sixth straight decline in overall betting prices.
The reported online sports betting handle for August was 112.1 million.
Louisiana online sports betting is now entering its 9th month, and analysts are expecting record months for the resumption of the most popular sports in the American sports calendar. The NFL has already started, and the NBA starts at the end of September. Additionally, the FIFA World Cup should give American pundits more incentive to place bets on major sporting events.
Louisiana passed a ballot initiative for sports betting in June 2020, taking at least 18 months from the bill’s passage to its official launch. This could have problems for online sports betting in California, which after the passage of Proposition 27, could face years of legal battles and political upheavals before a product can enter the market. With transaction costs at a staggering $500M on the ballot in CA alone, it looks like it could be the most expensive fight for a legal bet in the Sunshine State.
LA is far from formal when it comes to the legalization of online sports betting, and as such, the currently debating states may have a long wait before any start. The states of Florida, California, Texas and Oklahoma are just a few on the operator’s lips as they seek to open up the United States of America’s general address market.
N.L.L. With his return and the NBM as well, September will be key to the start of sports betting not just in Louisiana, but across the country.
