Man Utd and England left-back Luke Shaw “is still lazy” as it has been claimed that he “does not want to track back when he is defending”.
Earlier this season, it looked like Shaw would be one player who would be a victim of Erik ten Hag’s arrival.
United signed Tyrell Malacia to compete for a starting birth at left-back and the Dutchman was preferred at the start of this campaign.
Shaw has returned to the fold in recent weeks though and he has played the full 90 minutes in Man Utd‘s last three Premier League games.
This increased competition appears to have pushed on Shaw as he has been up to the battle of late.
The defender is now playing well and giving himself a good chance of starting for England at the World Cup in Qatar.
Earlier this month, Shaw acknowledged that Ten Hag is “keeping players on their toes” and this is getting the best out of the bulk of their squad.
Ex-Man Utd player Paul Parker is still concerned about Shaw even with him doing “quite well at the moment”.
The pundit has claimed that the defender’s “biggest problem has always been Luke himself”.
“Luke Shaw has never been the smartest footballer. But he is doing his job quite well at the moment,” Parker told MyBettingSites.
“But he is still lazy, look at his body language. He doesn’t want to track back when he is defending, he gets stupid bookings through laziness.
“But if he can avoid that he might be able to perform on a consistent basis for both Manchester United and England. Luke Shaw’s biggest problem has always been Luke himself.”
Parker has praised one of Shaw’s team-mates though as he is an admirer of United academy product Anthony Elanga.
The winger impressed for United last term but he has only started three Premier League games so far this campaign.
Despite this, Parker thinks Elanga is capable of becoming “the future of Manchester United”.
“He has the chance to become the future of Manchester United, but I don’t want to talk about potential, before he has actually shown that he has a big potential,” Parker added.
“He has a lot of work to do. He hasn’t done himself any justice when he has played, and now he needs to go back to basics. He should do what he is good at, which is showing energy, and play and move fast.
“He needs to perform on a consistent basis. Elanga has to focus on playing and not falling to the ground, when somebody is touching him. He is better than that.”
