McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl said the team can’t blame Daniel Ricciardo for not competing with teammate Lando Norris, who lost fourth in the constructors’ standings.
Alpine overtakes McLaren in fourth by 14 points. While Norris is the only driver outside the top three to stand on the podium this year with both Alpine drivers scoring, Ricciardo has had another difficult season which has seen him drop out of the team early. Norris scored three times as many points as him.
However, Seidl said, “It’s far from blaming the situation on Daniel, scoring P4 this year.”
“Ultimately, I know my responsibility and the team’s responsibility [to] “Despite the big commitment from Daniel and our side, let’s work together with Daniel in the way we had hoped,” he explained.
“That, in the end, is the part of not scoring as a team the points you want to score or are able to score. [and is] Normally part of the sport. And that’s something we’ll try to address or improve for next year.
Siddle in 2010 2022 “seems like a step backwards compared to previous seasons” and McLaren said “Alpine did a better job” and deserved to finish fifth. However, he believes there are many “positives” if we “take steps forward”.
“If you look at ourselves first, the fact that we are the only team outside of the top three to score a podium is one of the positives of this season,” he commented.
“So it was a positive result that Lando was able to score P7, which means he was, let’s say, the best of the drivers not in the top three teams. This shows again that Lando was having an amazing season despite not having the car this year.
“I see that we are moving in the right direction because, as I said before, there are many different topics in the team back home, and I also see that we have taken steps forward through the racing team here,” he added.
Despite the pressures of F1’s spending cap, the team said it was necessary to hire more engineers in 2022 to overcome brake problems and other setbacks after the Bahrain Grand Prix was a less than competitive race. They expected.
