19-6-1 DiCarlo Perez fights legendary 9-1 Lebanese lightweight Nadeem Salom in a scheduled 8-round bout Tuesday night at Sony Hall in Times Square. Salom started by hiring Jab first. Perez, on the other hand, was patient until he saw an opening. Salom put his fists together well in the second. Perez opened fire in the third, hooking the man on the ropes. Both men fired throughout the round, though Perez seemed to be improving.
As the fourth Perez pushed the action, Salom moved and fired from the rim. Solom landed well in the fifth – but so did Perez. It was a very exciting affair with everyone throwing heavy skins. Both fighters continued to trade punches in the sixth, leading one to think that one or perhaps both men would eventually be gassed. Perez took turns with Solom in the seventh, trying to control his timing. Again, each fighter landed well against his opponent.
The eighth and final round saw each man trying to assert himself early behind the jab. Salom lands a hard uppercut as Perez rocks the man with a left hook. As the clock ticked down, neither man had any energy left. The round – and the fight – ended with each man getting a shot. Salom won by scores of 76-76, 78-74, and 77-75.
