Newcastle United are readying a bid for Chelsea outcast Christian Pulisic, with Manchester United and Arsenal also interested, according to reports.
Pulisic failed to endear himself to ex-Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel and has failed to see his playing time increase under Graham Potter.
The 24-year-old was recently at the World Cup in Qatar with the United States, helping his side make it out of Group B before a last-16 exit at the hands of the Netherlands.
Given his lack of game time at Stamford Bridge, Pulisic has been strongly linked with a transfer in 2023.
Manchester United were keen on bringing him to Old Trafford last summer but could not come to an agreement with Chelsea.
Arsenal were another team believed to be in the mix, though the two Premier League heavyweights were thought to be keen on a loan more over the permanent signing of the American winger.
While those two have been eyeing up a move, filthy-rich Newcastle are also reportedly interested.
Despite a whole lot of interest and him having a tough time in west London, Florian Plettenberg reported last month that Pulisic is eager to stay at Chelsea and prove his worth to Potter.
Plettenberg does state, however, that he could depart should he receive a ‘great and interesting offer’ in the winter transfer window.
And according to the Mirror, Newcastle are preparing to lodge a bid when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Eddie Howe is apparently hoping Pulisic can be the Magpies’ next ‘statement signing’ after completing deals to sign Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, and Sven Botman this year.
United and Arsenal are said to be ‘monitoring’ the winger’s situation, though Newcastle do hold a key advantage over the Premier League big boys.
Both the Red Devils and Gunners will try to sign Pulisic on loan, unlike the Geordies, who are interested in a permanent deal.
This would definitely suit Chelsea, as they ‘prefer to sell’ the American international.
However, their asking price would start at around £40million, despite the fact they paid a fee in the region of £85m to sign him from Borussia Dortmund.
Newcastle ‘hope’ Chelsea will knock the price down, probably because they have to compete with financial fair play rules.
A wide forward is one of the north east club’s top priorities in January as they look to continue their push for continental football next season.
If a move for Pulisic fails to materialise, it is said that Eddie Howe will turn his attention to Brighton’s Leandro Trossard or Leeds United’s Jack Harrison.
However, Pulisic would be tempted to move to Newcastle with the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League tickling his fancy.
The 24-year-old was brilliant for the USA at the World Cup, assisting his side’s goal against Wales before netting a crucial winner in their Group B finale against Iran.
Newcastle are currently third in the Premier League with one defeat from their opening 15 fixtures.
