Esteban Ocon said the two-time world champion’s team-mate Fernando Alonso’s goal was a satisfying result.
The only driver to score as Alonso’s team-mate in his 21-year career is Jenson Button, who took 16 points to 11 in the disappointingly incredible 2015 McLaren-Honda MP4-30.
Two other team-mates who finished first in the standings: his first team-mate at Minardi, Tarso Marcus, who did not score any goals, and Lewis Hamilton, who finished second in the 2007 championship with more points. The second stage ends.
He beat Alonso Ocon by seven points in his first season at Alpine last year. Those positions were reversed this year, with Ocon finishing 11 points ahead of his teammate. While Alonso has repeatedly revealed that he has had a number of technical failures with his car this year, Ocon said: “I have had my issues too”.
Finishing ahead of Alonso “feels good,” Ocon said. “He is a very, very fast driver.
“I’ve really had to step up my game as much as I can and to finish ahead of him is really satisfying this year.”
Alonso took part in his last race for Alpine this year. Tomorrow he will test his new team Aston Martin for the first time.

“It’s great to work with Fernando and push the team to this level,” Ocon said. “So I’m happy to have spent two years with him, I wish him the best at Aston and I hope we can fight closely in the future.
Although Ocon won’t repeat last year’s race or podium finishes, he described 2022 as one of his most complete performances to date. “Really, the only thing I’ve lost at the end of this year is the podium,” he said. But those are different situations that we haven’t gotten to and hopefully we’ll get some next year.
Alonso retired halfway through the season. This is the sixth time the competition has been completed this year. Ocon, who has dropped out of two races this year, finished seventh and chased Lando Norris to the checkered flag to finish fourth in this year’s Alpine Constructors Championship.
“I’m very, very happy with the result we got today,” he said. “Obviously, we could have had one more lap and Landon, it was a really close race overall, but that’s okay.
“All the targets we set ourselves were achieved, we got fourth place in the constructors’ championship. Thank God for that. I lost two and a half kilos this weekend with stress and a lot of focus and it’s my best season in Formula 1 in terms of points.”
“So I’m really happy with that, he’s done a good job preparing the car a lot over the year and hopefully we can close the gap even more next year.”
