Hall of Fame fighter and Golden Boy Promotions honcho Oscar De La Hoya said. FightHub’s Marcos Villegas believes an announcement for the highly anticipated Ryan Garcia-Jervonta Davis fight will come “in the coming days.” If true, that’s big news for fans, really big news. It has been rumored for some time that the young, undefeated, hard hitting and very popular fighters are going to take the stage on April 15th. Garcia’s promoter, De La Hoya, assured Villegas that the fight was in the process of being signed. “It’s not official yet,” De La Hoya said. “Will it be done? Yes, it will be done.”
Indeed, De La Hoya said that although the contract has yet to be signed, the wheels of the main promotion are already in motion. “Ryan is in camp,” De La Hoya said. “He’s in Miami, and Gervonta, he’s a beast, he’s training there.” If public opinion counts for anything, both Davis and Garcia are clearly eager to drop. As for whether the fight has been signed yet, De La Hoya says: “I don’t want to go into it – there are a lot of details, but they are small, they are small.
And De La Hoya, when will the signatures finally appear on paper? “I think in the next few days,” he says. “In the coming days, we will come out with the official announcement. De La Hoya then went on to discuss possible locations for the fight. “The front runners are MGM and T-Mobile (both in Las Vegas),” he says. “I like MGM, but T-Mobile has more seats where you can fit more people.” On the upside, at least, De La Hoya is confident. “I strongly feel that this fight will blow him out of the water.”
And the reason for the negotiations is going slowly? “It’s a very complex deal – very, very complex,” he says. “It takes many hours, many negotiations back and forth.” De La Hoya rightly feels the Garcia-Davis fight will be a landmark event. In the world of boxing, when it doesn’t seem like major fights are going to happen, the fan can really use a boost. “This fight is that important here,” De La Hoya said. “April 15Th History is about to be made and more.”
