The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Brooklyn Nets 116-103 on Sunday, and on “The Pat Bev Podcast with Rone” YouTube show, Patrick Beverley said Kevin Durant was scared to roll the ball. Skip to the 30:16 mark in the video below.
“I took the ball in half, got a blocked shot,” Beverly said. “I mean, I’m a measly 6’1″. So, I don’t think you guys understand the art of defense – rush him to the S-T, make him double up, flip plays, take the big one.
Some NBA betting sites are giving the 19th best odds for the Lakers to win the championship in 2023. For now, a few sportsbooks are giving better odds to the Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers.
“I’m getting them to come outside, I’m checking them out here,” said Patrick Beverly. “Come on man. It’s amazing… it [Durant] He didn’t want to drive the ball at me.
Durant led the Nets with 31 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists, while Beverley finished with 2.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in just 26 minutes. The guard shot 1-9 overall.
Durant was not the reason they lost, even though the Drews lost by 13 points. The Lakers shot 48.4% from the floor and 40.7% from 3-point range.
Lakers guard Patrick Beverley believes Nets forward Kevin Durant avoided dribbling the ball on him.
In 15 starts this season, the two-time Finals MVP is averaging 30.3 points, 6.5 boards, 5.3 assists and 1.9 blocks. Additionally, he has two double-doubles and one triple-double in his career this season.
“He was bringing the ball up,” continued Patrick Beverley. Do you know what I mean? That’s something people don’t understand about basketball.
I am ready for you. And I’m taking you full court. I’ll pick you up halfway through. Don’t pass, don’t come down, let’s go—let’s go, King.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Beverley is averaging a career-low 4.6 points this season. Considering that the 11-year veteran has started 11 games with the Lakers, his offensive performance has disappointed many fans.
Last season, in 58 starts with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the guard averaged 9.2 points, 4.1 boards, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals. Based on his numbers with LA so far, Lakers coach Darwin Hamm may decide to bring Beverley off the bench.
Judging by his social media posts, Kevin Durant is psychologically fragile. However, the claim that Durant didn’t want to dribble against Beverley in Sunday’s game is a bit of a stretch. This would have made more sense five years ago.
In 15 games, Durant has recorded eight 30-point games this season.
