The Mexican Grand Prix result was about breaking the 18-year-old record for most wins in a single season.
Max Verstappen takes his 14th win of the year in Mexico. Former record holders Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel didn’t have the luxury of 20 races (never mind twice to push further), but the generally growing F1 calendar allowed him to achieve this record. Grow and grow.
The Red Bull driver also broke the record for most points scored in a World Championship season. Again, the longer length of the calendar makes this more achievable, given the changes to F1’s points systems over the years. He now sits at 419, 60 more than the previous record set by Lewis Hamilton three years ago, with the rest of the Grands Prix and the Brazilian race remaining.
Verstappen’s win gave Red Bull their ninth straight victory, equaling their best ever winning streak. In the last races of 2013, they scored nine, all of which were victories for Vettel. However, Verstappen’s winning streak was cut short this year.
The Mexican GP has now been won by Verstappen four times in the last five years. Apart from the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the only venue where Verstappen has scored four wins is the Red Bull Ring.
Verstappen is the only Dutch driver to win the race, ahead of the Netherlands (34 wins) and the United States and Spain (33 each) in total, making it into F1’s top 10 most successful countries. Terms of winning.

If Red Bull wins the final two races of the year, it will equal the all-time record for most consecutive wins by the same team. That was set by one of Formula 1’s greatest cars, the McLaren-Honda MP4/4. At the start of the 1988 season, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost won 11 consecutive races in the car.
The MP4/4 won all but one of the 16 races that year. Verstappen’s win on Sunday was the 16th for the RB18.
Verstappen took his sixth pole position of the year and 19th of his career last weekend. It was the first in Mexico but Red Bull’s second, with Daniel Ricciardo taking his latest pole position at the venue in 2018.
The fastest lap was taken by George Russell, the fourth in his career, making him equal with Lando Norris, as well as Joe Siffert, Jean-Pierre Beltois, Patrick Depailer and Jean Alessi. This is the third time Russell has set the fastest lap and the fifth of the season for Mercedes, who are yet to win a race.
For the fifth time in the last seven races, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez have swapped positions for second in the championship. Both drivers have made it clear that they are not particularly happy about which one of them is in second place, but Red Bull is interesting, because previously neither of their drivers has ever held the top two positions in the championship. At the end of the year.
