Carlos Sanz Jr. says his target for 2023 is to start next season in the same way he closed the 2022 championship.
Sainz joined Ferrari from McLaren in 2021 and finished ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ championship at the end of the season. However, Leclerc took six pole positions and two races in the first ten races of the 2022 season to a single pole position for Sainz and a race win at Silverstone.
Despite Max Verstappen and Red Bull dominating the championship and taking both trophies with the race, Sanz’s form has picked up in recent rounds. He took pole position in the United States before beating his teammate in qualifying and the race in Mexico.
With the championship now out of reach, Sainz said his focus is on moving from the end of the season to early next year.
Sainz told the media: “I wanted to feel more comfortable at the beginning of the season, to make things more complicated for Maxim and to fight a little more with Charles. including RaceFans. But Max had an amazing season. worth it.
“I think they are dominant now. I think now Red Bull is starting to be the dominant car – but at the start of the season, definitely not. And that’s where he’s done an amazing job. My target for this next year is to start from my current level, which is a great level, and make things more complicated to the max.
RaceFans asked if Red Bull’s dominance of the final two-thirds of the season would see Ferrari look to 2023, Sainz said next season would be a fresh start.
“New year, new car,” Sainz said. “New rules, even, with the floor.
“We have another chance and I have every confidence that the team will produce another great car like this year and we will learn from the mistakes made this year. I will learn from my mistakes this year and we will be more in the fight and we will be ready to fight. I am looking forward to mercy.”[edes]It seems they will join us at the front.
