Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has investigated a possible purchase of Formula 1 from Liberty Media, according to a report by Bloomberg.
While the fund has reportedly inquired with Liberty Media about their interest in selling the commercial rights to the world championship, the Formula 1 owners have said they have no interest in selling at this time.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has been active in the world of sports in recent years, taking control of English Premier League soccer club Newcastle United and in recent weeks mooted the possibility of buying World Wrestling Entertainment.
Ecclestone in court for tax fraud
Former Formula One managing director Bernie Ecclestone appeared in court today as part of his ongoing tax fraud trial.
Eccleston is due to stand trial in November on charges of fraud by false representation for failing to report a $650 million bank account in Singapore to the UK’s HMRC tax office.
The 92-year-old has yet to enter a plea to the charges, and his trial is set to begin on November 16.
Barter goes to FIA F3 with Campos
Hugh Barter will remain with the Campos team, where he competed in the Spanish Formula 4 Championship last year, and will graduate from the FIA Formula 3 Championship this season.
The 17-year-old joins team-mate Christian Mansell as the team’s third driver. In both the Spanish and French F4 championships last year, Barter finished second with 16 race wins and 10 combined pole positions. He completed two days of testing in an F3 car with Campos.
