Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly relaxed over Son Heung-min’s future despite rumours that he is seeking a move elsewhere.
It was reported this week that Son is ‘preparing for the next step in his career’ with Real Madrid keeping tabs on his situation.
The South Korean sensation joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen for £27million in 2015.
He has scored an impressive 136 goals in 342 matches for the Premier League club.
Son also helped his side reach the final of the Champions League in 2019, but has failed to win a single trophy during his time in north London.
The six-time South Korean player of the year may have come to the realisation that he might retire without winning a league or cup in his club career and is now eager to find a new team before it is too late.
And Real Madrid certainly is the place to go if a player wants to get his hands on some silverware.
However, Los Blancos already have Eden Hazard, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo at the club and may be reluctant to delve back into the Premier League market after paying £105m on Hazard, who has flopped in Madrid.
After a terrific 2021-22 campaign in which he scored 22 league goals, Son has started 22-23 slowly by his usual high standards.
In 17 games across all competitions, the 30-year-old has only found the back of the net five times.
Furthermore, his only goals domestically this campaign came in a single match, when he came off the bench to net a 13-minute hat-trick against Leicester City on October 9.
News of Son wanting to leave Spurs came via Sport1, who also stated that Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are interested.
However, it has since been reported by 90min that Spurs are ‘unconcerned’ by the possibility of Son wanting to leave.
The experienced forward is under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2025, so the club are pretty relaxed.
Spurs will apparently not even consider selling the player for ‘another couple of years at least’.
Real Madrid have also ‘played down’ rumours linking them with Son, with a move for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe more likely.
The report adds that Spurs are confident Harry Kane will agree a new contract, with his current deal expiring in 2024.
As well as Son, Bayern are reportedly interested in Kane after they failed to replace Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
Despite the club’s confidence, their former manager Tim Sherwood does not see why Son or Kane would extend their contracts.
“Let’s face it, he (head coach Antonio Conte) only has until the end of the season,” he said. “I mean he’s not signed a new contract.
“You are asking Harry Kane and Son to extend their contracts, why would you extend your contract?
“There is speculation of him going back to Italy. He is lauded in Italy for the style of how he wants to play. This year he has to win, if he doesn’t win this year, then he will leave.”
