Sprint races ‘didn’t prove to me their ability as a spectacle’ – Gasly
Alpine driver Pierre Gasly does not believe Formula 1’s sprint race format has yet proven itself as a spectacle.
The format has featured three rounds for both of the past two years and will expand to six rounds this season. Gasly said he would opt for Saturday’s traditional qualifying race, followed by a single race on Saturday and Sunday.
“I personally like the usual format with qualifying on Saturday and a grand prix on Sunday,” Gasly said.
“Sprint races – I see the positive sides financially for the organization. At the show level, I still haven’t convinced myself that the number of races is worth it. So, in my opinion, the conventional format is better.
F2, F3 seed fuel for shipping to Melbourne three months ago
Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 will be sending their racing fuel to Melbourne for the first race of the series at the Albert Park circuit three months ago.
Series CEO Bruno Michel, when asked about the logistics of traveling to Australia, said some resources would have to be shipped in early April ahead of the event.
“It’s complicated, but we really enjoy doing it,” says Michelle. “Especially because it’s early in the season so it will be after Bahrain. So there are many things that need to be organized first.
“For example, we have to ship the fuel early because we know it will take three months to get there and we know we can’t fly it. So yes, it makes things a bit more complicated. In terms of price, it doesn’t matter to the teams because we pay for the freight because the promoter is giving us money to pay for that. So that’s great.”
