After nearly a year and a half out of the ring, former WBO world featherweight champion Heather Hardy, 22-2, returns to action Thursday night when she takes on 20-15-3 Calista Silgado. A scheduled 6 round lightweight bout was the main event. Box Insider’s “Newbies” card at Sony Hall in Times Square.
The first was an interesting affair – with each woman effectively landing on the other – although Hardy may have had the edge. Silgado had a strong second, swinging and power forward. Silgado continued to attack in the third, but Hardy came back and was able to finish the round strong.
The fourth round saw Hardy assert herself effectively. In the fifth, the fighter called “Heat” continued to prevent Silgadon from gaining strength. The sixth and final round, however competitive, may have been too little too late for Selgado. Suffice it to say, the forty-year-old Hardy exited the ring with a unanimous decision win under her belt.
“After a long layoff, a lot of nerves, new coaches behind me, it was a long day,” Hardy said. “Not bad for forty, is it?”
