In summary: Zhu Guanyu said he played his team game to help Alfa Romeo score points in Mexico.
in short
Zhou “tried to play the team game” at the Mexican GP
Zhou finished 13th at the Mexican Grand Prix after qualifying 12th, but his recent lack of results may have been beneficial for Alfa Romeo as team-mate Valtteri Bottas scored his first point in 11 races. The rookie revealed that he had withdrawn from his own race to support Bottas, who finished sixth and finished tenth.
“I tried to play the team game and I had a good position in the midfield,” Zhou said. “It was going well and after that Valtteri tried to give me some places with the Alpine, which I am happy to loosen my race a bit,” he said.
“But in the end it was a bit disappointing because I was so close to getting ahead of this DRS train and unfortunately I got behind and it was hard to get ahead of them.”
He said Alfa Romeo “tried to use me to slow down the pack, which probably made sense to wait for the safety car window” and that he thought it was “worth the gamble” when finishing outside the points seemed unlikely. Paying for any places.
Mexican GP claims viewership record.
The promoter of the Mexican Grand Prix said it attracted a record 395,902 spectators over the three-day event. 145,934 people were registered on Sunday alone.
Erickson reflects on a difficult start to his IndyCar career
Marcus Ericsson spoke about the difficulty of making the transition from Formula 1 to IndyCar as he revealed his face at the Borg-Warner Cup for silverware at the Indianapolis 500 he wins each year.
After five seasons in F1 with a best finish of eighth, Ericsson switched to IndyCar in 2019 and initially found it easy to succeed. He took one podium in each of his first two seasons, won two races last year and won this year’s Indy 500.
“I wouldn’t say I underestimated IndyCar, but I thought I’d be a little bit stronger than I was,” he said. “My first two seasons were tough, and the first year was tough. I guess you could say the second year I thought I was finding my way a little bit, but it was still a bigger challenge than I thought it would be.
But when you think about it, you’re up against guys who have been racing here for 10, 15, even 20 years, and they know these cars and these tracks. You know it’s going to take a while to get over that.”
On his form the past two seasons, both of which he finished sixth, “I’ve had a really strong three or four years here, and I’ve been running at the front.” And this is a great series; i like this. It’s very competitive now with a lot of good cars and drivers, and every time you go out there you know it’s going to be a fight. I love a series like this.”

Delusional Horner is ruining the entire sport of F1 (The Times – subscription required)
‘Lewis Hamilton has been robbed. I think we should make that clear at the beginning of this column. The reason I emphasize this is that Christian Horner and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen have decided to leave Sky Sports after one of their journalists used the term in relation to the 2021 season finale, following the controversial restart of the safety car in the final stages of the race.’
Hamilton likes to watch our race (BBC)
‘F1 is a male-dominated sport, but there are growing calls to change the status quo. One of the women hoping to take on that responsibility is 19-year-old Abby Pulling from Spalding, Lincolnshire. She has been impressing on track in the W Series, and although the final races in that race have been dragged out, she told BBC Newsbeat that she hopes to one day see a woman behind the wheel of an F1 car.’
Alpine is considering an early release for Piastre (Speedcafe).
Further details on Oscar Pistri’s continued position at the Alpine F1 team are set to be decided in the coming days. In the year The Australian’s absence from the track has been notable since it was announced that he will not drive for the Enstone operation in 2023 and instead race for McLaren.’
Ganassi no. 10 safe though the rise of NTT
‘The departure of NTT’s decade-long sponsorship to rival McLaren SP will not jeopardize Chip Ganassi Racing’s No. 10 Honda. Racing understands CGR, which has been waiting for the change for some time, has assembled a full list of known sponsors in the near future to replace NTT in an entry led by 2021 series champion Alex Palu.’
How a new F4 era led to a strange British F4 season finale (Formula Scout)
The merger between British F4 and the European series in 2022 has made it easier for drivers to incorporate it into the dual programmes. Alex Dunne did the same, and that meant he won the British Championship in a surprising way.’
