It’s official: Tiger Woods is returning to the golf course on Dec. 10 for the seventh edition of The Match.
The 15-time major champion will play against world No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in the 12-hole tournament at Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, Florida.
Proceeds from the 6 p.m. game will benefit Hurricane Ian relief efforts along the Gulf Coast. Previous editions of The Match have raised $33 million for charities and served 27 million meals through Feeding America, according to a news release.
It will be Woods’ third appearance in the Match. In May 2020, he teamed with NFL quarterback Peyton Manning to beat Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady by 1 stroke. McIlroy, Spieth and Thomas will make their debuts at the event.
Woods, 46, has not played since losing the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews in July. In the year He is recovering from serious injuries sustained in a February 2021 car accident outside of Los Angeles. In his first start since the disaster, he finished 47th at the Masters in April and retired in May after three rounds of the PGA Championship.
Woods has not yet announced whether he will play at the World Championship at The Brave in the Bahamas in early December. The event benefits the foundation. Woods is expected to compete with son Charlie in the PNC Championship, scheduled for Dec. 15-18 in Orlando, but has yet to confirm whether he will play in the event.
