Tost ‘Loved Schumacher in Alfa Romeo’
Alfatauri team principal Franz Tost would be happy to offer Mick Schumacher a race seat with the team for 2023.
Schumacher was rejected by Haas in favor of veteran Nico Hulkenberg near the end of the 2022 season. The announcement comes after AlphaTauri already confirmed Nick de Vries for the 2023 season. Tost said he would be happy if Schumacher could race for the team.
“Honestly, I would have liked to have had Mick in the car,” Tost told RTL.
“I’m sure Mick is talented and has what it takes to drive successfully in Formula 1,” said Tost.
Mercedes has signed Schumacher as the team’s reserve driver for this year. “It’s a very, very good team, one of the best in Formula 1, so he can learn a lot,” Tost said.
Piquet’s final race to beat Benetton for sale
In 1991, a Benetton B191 driven by both Nelson Piquet and Michael Schumacher was put up for sale with car auctioneers RM Sotheby’s. Chassis number B-191-02 was first driven by Nelson Piquet and he used it to win the 1991 Canadian Grand Prix, his last career victory in the sport.
After Schumacher’s impressive debut with Jordan, the future seven-time champion signed to drive with Benetton for the remainder of the season, scoring four points in the final five rounds of the championship.
Benetton would finish the 1991 season in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship with 38.5 points.
Mazepin’s father was searched by the Italian police for missing boats
Dimitri Mazepin, father of former Haas F1 driver Nikita Mazepin, is wanted by Italian authorities in connection with the disappearance of two yachts from a Sardinian port.
Mazepin owns Ural Kali Petrochemical Company, which was Haas’ title sponsor before the team cut ties after Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine in March. The Italian government has frozen Mazeppa’s assets after the European Union imposed sanctions on Russia, including two superyachts in Sardinia.
However, with the two boats missing, Mazepin has hired an outside company and a Sardinian captain to continue transporting the vessels from port, the Guardian reported. Mazepin and the boats are now being tracked by Italian authorities.
