RaceFans readers have voted Max Verstappen as the top driver for the 2022 Formula 1 season. It’s the second year running that the Red Bull driver has topped our poll.
The Red Bull driver has retained his championship crown, but will have to fight his way to the final round in 2021, this time with a four-race lockout.
Verstappen’s 2022 title margin, 146 points ahead of second-placed Charles Leclerc, is the same as his dominance in the RaceFans readers’ poll. More than half of all votes went to Verstappen, although he took a smaller share of the total votes compared to last year (52% to 55%).
Similar to last year, another Mercedes driver received the second highest vote, but this time it was new signing George Russell instead of Lewis Hamilton. Russell collected 11% of the reader vote, while Hamilton dropped to fifth place and 5% of the total vote. In between the two Mercedes drivers were Alpine’s Fernando Alonso (10%) and McLaren’s Lando Norris (9%).
Haas driver Kevin Magnussen received 3% of the vote, Leclerc and Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel on 2%, followed by six drivers (Alex Albon, Valtteri Bottas, Nicolas Latifi, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, and Mick Schumacher). At least one vote.
That six full-time drivers, including Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, was no one’s best performer in the Autofans readership.
