John Rahe will try to become the first PGA Tour player since 2017 to win three straight starts when he meets Wednesday at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines outside San Diego.
How rare will his work be?

Rahm, who started the season with wins at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the American Express, became the first player to win three straight on the PGA Tour since Dustin Johnson did it at the Genesis Open, WCC-Mexico Championship and WGC-Del. Technologies match in early 2017. Rory McIlroy did it in 2014 and Woods last did it in 2008.
according to Ray’s research, Woods won 58.3% of the time when he won his third start. Everyone else had a 10.5% success rate.

Three stories to watch:
Try Rahm’s trifectaRahm should have a good chance at three-peat at Torrey Pines, one of his favorite courses in the world. He won the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open and the 2021 US Open, his only major championship victory at Torrey Pines.
In 24 career rounds at Torrey Pines, Rahm averaged 69.29. He is second-best among players with at least 10 rounds since 1968. Woods averaged 69.28 in 69 career rounds. Woods has won the event seven times, and also played in the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines.
“I feel very healthy and I feel very comfortable with my swing,” Rahm said. “So I’m going to Tory, where I’m already very confident, very high hopes, doing all the right things.
“If I keep hitting off the tee and my iron game stays at this level, I’ll have a good chance on that golf course. So I can’t help but smile because, again, it’s a very. Every time I go, it’s a very emotional week in a very good way. It’s a very special place in my heart.” .
How good has Rahm been this year? He leads the PGA Tour in average on greens (81.02%), birdie average (6.67), average (68.889), par-4 scoring average (3.76) and balls gained off the tee (1.071).
Rahm has excelled at PGA Tour events in California.

Earlier T times: For the second year in a row, the Farmers Insurance Open will be held Wednesday through Saturday to avoid TV competition with NFL conference championship games on Sunday. It is the only event on the PGA Tour schedule with a Saturday finish. Rounds 3 and 4 will be broadcast in prime time on the East Coast.
The field includes Rahm, Colin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, Max Homa and Will Zalatoris, so there’s plenty of star power at Torrey Pines. In fact, five of the top 10 players in the OWGR and 13 of the top 50 players are there.
Hello againNo doubt there will be jokes about the PGA Tour’s rise to the start of Farmers Insurance. Holmes, 40, isn’t exactly known for his fastball.
Still, it’s good to have Holmes back on tour after spending most of the past two seasons sidelined with a back injury. He is competing in the Major Medical Freelance and has 26 starts to earn 288.816 FedEx Cup points to retain his tour card. Earlier in Holmes’ career, he battled back from two brain surgeries to win three of his five career victories on tour.
In the year It will be Holmes’ first PGA Tour start since missing out on the Fortinet Championship in September 2021. He hasn’t finished in the top 10 in a Tour event since winning the 2019 Genesis Invitational. Almost five months after winning at Riviera, Holmes shared the 36-hole lead with eventual champion Shane Lowry at the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush. Holmes was 6 shots back heading into the final round and shot a 16-over 87. He finished 67th. Holmes has just one top-15 finish in 31 starts.
Lanto Griffin, who won the 2019 Houston Open, is scheduled to make his first start since back surgery at the John Deere Classic in July. He competed for the 66th time in the Great Exuma Classic in the Bahamas last week on the Korn Yacht Tour.
LIV Golf Augusta National requires documents
The latest discovery dispute between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour involves the relationship between the PGA Tour’s independent directors and former commissioner Tim Fincham and Augusta National Golf Club employees and members.
According to a court filing on Monday, LIV Golf’s attorneys are seeking communication between the parties involved “including but not limited to LIV Golf in connection with the new tour.”
The subpoenas agreed to meet with four Augusta National employees and seven members, including chairman Fred Ridley. But LIV’s lawyers want to expand the discovery to include Augusta Nationals Jimmy Dunn, Condoleezza Rice, Billy Payne and others.
“A central element of the tour’s plan to shut down competition with LIV was to intimidate golfers, other tours, vendors, broadcasters, sponsors and other third parties,” LIV Golf’s lawyers said in a joint statement. The court. The findings show that the tour made these threats not only through its own executives and employees, but also by sending other influencers on its behalf.
In the same court filing, independent director of the PGA Tour Policy Board, Mary Meeker, called LIV Golf’s attempt “a fishing trip to communicate with individuals whom LIV considers ‘America’s Most Powerful People,’ but has no relevance to the issue at hand.”
“LIV contends — incorrectly — that the tour ‘saved’ or pressured Augusta National to bar LIV golfers from the Masters,” Meeker’s attorney wrote. “According to plaintiffs, the Tour and Augusta National agreed to respond to LIV, which race[ed] It is suspected that major professional golfers will be banned from future Masters tournaments.’ This theory is completely unfounded, given that the Masters will allow LIV golfers to compete in the 2023 tournament.
On Dec. 20, Augusta National announced that any golfer eligible for the Masters under the previous criteria, including 16 players competing in the Levy Golf League, will be invited to play in April.
Garcia pulled out of DP World Tour controversy.
Scott Crockett, director of communications for the DP World Tour, told reporters in Dubai this week that LIV golfers Sergio Garcia, Brandon Grace and Charles Schwartzel have recused themselves from appealing the upcoming arbitration hearing, which will determine whether the DP World Tour can be banned from the tournament. Conflicting LIV Golf events.
Thirteen LIV golfers remain appellants in the case, including long-time Ryder Cup participants Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood, and 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed. The hearing in front of a three-person panel convened at the Sports Decisions Arbitration and Media Center in London will begin on February 6.
A decision is not expected for several weeks after the hearing. Either party can appeal the decision.
Keith Pelley, CEO of the DP World Tour, told reporters in Dubai that the result is whatever it is. “I think it’s an important time for our tour and to protect our tour and for our members at all levels.”
