The race director role is not set to change hands again, despite reports that Nils Wittich was to be replaced. A spokesperson for the FIA advised RaceFans that his position is not in doubt.
Wittich was appointed to share the role with Eduardo Freitas following the acrimonious departure of former competition director Michael Massi early last year. Abt: Reaching first FE round with two cars ‘like a small victory’
Returning to the Formula E grid with two cars for the 2023 season is already a victory for Abt Cupra, said team CEO Hans Juergen Abt.
Abbott has been in FE since its debut in the 2014-15 season until 2021, before the 2017-18 season as Audi’s factory team when the powertrain supplier took over ownership of the team’s entry. However, Abt lost his place on the grid when Eddie decided to leave FE at the end of 2021.
However, Abt managed to secure one of the entries for this year’s new ‘Gen3’ era of FE. It will be back in partnership with Mahindra powertrains and another Volkswagen Group brand, the Cupra.
“Being on the starting grid with two cars in Mexico is already a small victory for us,” he said. “Since the conclusion of the seventh season, we have been working together with our team to return to FE.
“Over the past year, the team has continued to grow together at our motorsport center and a dedicated FE department has been created, including mission control and simulators. My thanks to the whole team for all the hard work and long nights. It is to everyone’s credit that our ABT brand is now able to present itself on this platform again worldwide.
